Pulley & Bearing Assembly
This powder metal pulley and bearing assembly is used on a serpentine belt-drive tensioner system and represents a conversion/upgrade from machined cast iron. The pulley is manufactured using an FC-0208-40 copper-steel material with a tensile strength of 50,000 psi and a minimum yield strength of 40,000 psi. In order to reduce the weight of the finished assembly, weight-saving holes were incorporated into the tooling. The holes are arcuate-shaped to maximize material and weight savings. The pulley undergoes steam oxide-blackened surface treatment, which provides 50% better wear than cast iron, and results in surfaces with significantly better corrosion resistance. A precision machining operation is then performed to meet the extremely tight tolerance specification of the bearing bore and to provide a groove for the retainer ring. The bearings and retainers are installed to provide complete units ready for assembly in the tensioner system. - Conversion from machined cast iron
- Improved corrosion resistance
- 50% better wear than cast iron
- Tensile strength of 50,000 psi
