Ring Gear

This internal ring gear is manufactured from powder metal and is part of a planetary gear transmission, which is used on premium, heavy-duty, cordless electric drills. It replaced a heat-treated part, and is an example of MPP's expertise in the design and manufacture of sinter-hardened powder metallurgy parts. The part is pressed from FLC-4608-50HT (MPIF designation) and is subsequently annealed. The previous (heat-treated) part was replaced because the gear teeth were being distorted during the heat treating process, and the distortion resulted in excessive noise. Sinter-hardening allows the part to be produced with less distortion, which translates into less gear. In addition to utilizing MPP's experience in sinter-hardening, this part is a good example of our expertise in the manufacture of powder metal gears.
